We place an emphasis on reading for pleasure and giving the children an opportunity to read to an audience. We provide opportunities for peer reading, paired reading and reading with other year groups as well as the teacher reading to the class every day. Guided reading ensures that the children have an opportunity to read a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry books at Godwin Primary. These may or may not be from different reading schemes.
Year 3 teachers are involved in a Reciprocal Reading project, developing the questioning skills linked to reading. We hope to work with teachers across the school to develop this more.
We have two trained Reading Recovery teachers (although only one in the Reading Recovery role) on the staff and most of our teacher assistants are trained in Better Reading Partners. We also have teacher assistants trained in the delivery of Project X, and a phase teacher who works with groups using Digismart.
