We know that most of our children have not completed all of the learning for their year and that children have accessed learning at home to various degrees of success. Please do not worry.
We will quickly identify starting points for all of our children through discussions, observing them, marking their class work and working with them. We will use this to build a curriculum that matches their needs and starting points.
To fully engage children with learning we know that they need to feel happy and safe being back in school. So initially, learning will focus on:
- children's wellbeing and readiness for being back in school;
- rebuilding and reconnecting relationships with staff and their friends;
- re-engaging children with learning;
- children's understanding of COVID-19 and the new safety measures in place;
We will also be running our annual safety week (usually in July) early on in the autumn term.
Once settled, we will be offering the children as full as a curriculum as we can manage, within the guidelines, covering all subjects and allowing them to make as much progress as they can from their starting points. We expect this to include some reteaching of previous learning, and some learning that should have been covered during the period of lockdown.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
