Morning!
7.15 and all is quiet so far! Children all went to bed well and were mostly asleep by 11pm
Apologies for a late entry but today has been non-stop fun, games and adventure. It has been an absolutely beautiful day with bright sun and panoramic views.
Group 1 went off to the caves this morning. This was the activity that Miss Carter was fearing the most but the children have all helped her through and she showed resilience and determination as they all faced the infamous 'letterbox' and 'washing machine'.
Group 2 were off canoeing with Miss Brand. She said they all showed loads of resilience particularly because a lot of them spent more time trying to get out of the weeds and rushes on the sides of the river than canoeing down the middle. They also spent quite a lot of time going round in circles! The children all had loads of fun and particularly enjoyed splashing around at the end.
Groups 3 and 4 meanwhile were off climbing and for a steep climb through the local woods.
Mrs Gill, who is celebrating her wedding anniversary today (away from her husband), said that her team really enjoyed learning about William the Conqueror at the top of the woods where a castle used to stand. She was really impressed with how the children shared their knowledge from their history lessons. During the climbing, her team worked brilliantly together and there were a few shining superstars that she can't wait to tell parents about!
Miss Spooner's group meanwhile started the day with climbing the walls and was pleased to see that the children kept challenging themselves by choosing the harder routes. In the afternoon, they enjoyed a 5K walk in the beautiful sun!
Dinner tonight was burger and chips followed by banoffee pie! One of the boys asked 'but how does it taste that good?' when eating the banoffee pie. All the staff here actually enjoyed at least 3 minutes of silence as the children all tucked in to their food which they completely enjoyed.
After dinner, they have been involved in problem solving activites which they thoroughly enjoyed.
After problem-solving, children had tuck, completed their diaries and then had hot chocolate whilst settling down to share their gratitudes, day’s learning and the next instalment of their bedtime story ‘Crater Lake’. Miss Spooner is loving this part of the day, hearing what they are proud of, grateful for and sharing a story, all about a Year 6 residential trip, together.
Rest assured that we have plenty more pictures of children in activities and around Trewern. Wifi here is not great, our devices’ batteries are dying and we have far too many pictures to share on the website. We will do our best to get them to people at home at some point before the end of the year so the children can share the memories they are making by the minute.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
