What expertise and training do the staff have to support children with SEND?
All teaching staff (TAs and teachers) receive regular training in arrangements for children with SEND from the SENCo. In addition, specialist training is delivered to staff when necessary. Within school we have adults who have received training including the following:
- Thrive training (to deliver emotional support on a 1:1 and small group basis)
- Nurture group training
- Training in specific interventions from outside agencies such as Edge Hill University:
- 1st Class @ number Key Stages 1 and 2
- 1st Class at Writing Years 3 and 4
- Better Reading Partners
- Project X Reading programme
- Success at Arithmetic
- Manual handling (for staff working with children who have physical disabilities)
- Positive handling (which may be necessary to provide physical support for children who are at risk of hurting themselves or others through challenging behaviour)
- Autism awareness
- Makaton signing
- Using workstations
- Speech and Language
- First aid and paediatric first aid training and qualifications
- Medical training from specialist nurses to deal with specific medical needs including use of Epipens, Diabetes requiring the administration of insulin, epilepsy, sickle cell anaemia
