From Monday 15th June, the way we set Home Learning has changed. Instead of a daily Purple Mash Blog, tasks for the week can be accessed by following the link below. All the resources shown posted on the class website are the ones we are using in school that week. 

You can still use Purple Mash though to tackle 2Dos, leave messages for your teacher or just have fun learning!

Welcome to our page! This is 6Wa's class webpage.

Keep and eye out for updates on all that we have been learning about this year and the fun and exciting activities taking place in our class and the year group.

Hi Y6,

Thank you to all the children who have been working hard at home. We have something a bit different but very exciting for you to do next week!

What Is the Project?

Y6 are invited to design a series of special silk banners for display in the Barking & Dagenham Council Chambers, as part of the celebrations to mark the 75th Anniversary of V.E. Day. We are very excited to have been chosen by Kinetika (the design company who are running the project) and really need your help.

What Do You Have to Do?

Draw two pictures. Do them lightly in pencil then go over them in a black felt tip so that they are clear. Do them on A4 blank paper but MAKE THEM BIG! If you are not able to colour them, don’t worry. But if you can colour them, please do.

One should link to V.E. Day. The other should be inspired by one of the following questions:

• How did families support each other during the war? How are you and your family supporting each other now - what activities are you doing together?
• How did communities come together during the war/How are communities coming together now?
• When the virus has gone, and we can be together again, how will we celebrate?

What Help Will You Get?

Below is an information pack that tells you all you need to know:

• Part One is about World War II and V.E. Day. There are lots of questions, links and further learning ideas. Read it through and explore, preferably with an adult, to give you some ideas about what to include in the design. 
• Part Two is gives step-by-step instructions on what to do. There are examples and suggestions about what you might draw. There is also a list of useful websites for further learning opportunities.

How Do You Give Your Work In?

When the two pictures are finished, take a photo of each one following the instructions in the pack. An adult should email them to: clare@kinetika.co.uk as soon as they can. We need them to be there by FRIDAY 3^RD APRIL so that the designs can be put onto the banners in time.

Will I Get Any Other Home Learning Tasks?

You will still need to do your homework, read and exercise. You can still go on Purple Mash/TTRS and your teachers will still set 2Dos. But, for next week, this should be your focus.

Year 6 homework

Here is a list of recommended activities we would like your child to complete at home.

Maths:

• All Y6 children have been given Maths Revision books which they can work through as well as their weekly homework;
• Log on to Times Table Rockstars and (your logins have been sent home);
• BBC Bitesize has fun maths games to play: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z826n39; 
• Log on to Purple Mash (your individual logins have been sent home). There are a variety of activities for you to complete on here;
• You can create your own worksheets and www.mathsisfun/worksheets/. Don’t forget to link them to the topics in your revision book (no point doing Y1 work!); 
• Other good websites to use are www.topmarks.co.uk or www.twinkl.co.uk.

Reading:

• For a list of recommended reading books, join the CLPE website: https://clpe.org.uk/corebooks/key-stage-2. All books can be ordered from Amazon, WHS Smith or Waterstones etc;
• All Y6 children have been given Reading Revision books which they can work through. Some of the websites mentioned above also provide comprehension tasks (Twinkl, BBC, Top Marks);
• Continue to read your reading/library book every day and record this in your reading diary (or any other books you are interested in);
• For each book you read, write a book review (templates can be found online for you to copy if you are unsure of what to include);
• Log on to Purple Mash (your individual logins have been sent home) and use ‘serial mash’ to read texts and answer questions – just like Guided Reading in class;
• Here is a list of activities to complete about what you are reading:

• Write a diary entry as one of the characters;
• Write a new blurb for your story;
• At the end of a chapter, can you predict what will happen next? Maybe you could write a chapter of your own and compare it to what actually happens;
• Make lists of the adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs that have been used;
• Summarise a chapter in 15 words.

Writing:

• All Y6 children have been given Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar Revision books which they can work through as well as their weekly homework;
• Continue to practise all the spellings on your highlighted lists – make sure you know what they mean and use them in sentences.
• Practise handwriting using the joined script.
• Write, edit and copy in best 3 different texts (remember to include end of year standards):

• A short story of your choice (maybe inspired by a book you are reading);
• A persuasive advert to persuade someone to play your favourite game;
• Write a biography about your favourite celebrity (research about their early life, career, family and achievements);
• Write a diary about what you get up to during your time out of school. Maybe one day your work will be a historical account of an extraordinary time in history. 

Other:

• Log on to Purple Mash and explore the different sections (there are lots of activities about all topics – science is particularly useful);
• Whether SATs will go ahead is uncertain. However, CGP, Letts and Rising Stars produce useful revision guides which will help prepare your child for work at secondary school.

• Watch TV!: CBBC has excellent programmes to help with your learning such as Newsround, Horrible Histories, Deadly 6o etc. 
• Watch Films!: There are lots of great adaptations of children’s books which can be downloaded and watched (His Dark Materials, The Hobbit, Coraline, Harry Potter, Little Women, Holes, The Princess Bride, Hugo, Stardust plus may other Disney and Roald Dahl favourites).
