At Godwin Primary school we use the phonics programme ‘Read, Write, Inc’ (RWI) to teach children to read and write. Below you will find links to YouTube videos to help you support your child with this programme at home. It is very important that your child practises the sounds, letter formation and when ready reading at home.

The first video explains how ‘Read, Write, Inc’ works and includes top tips.
 

The second video shows you how each sound is pronounced so you can help your child at home. Please note we will be learning a new sound each day and will only be focusing on set 1 to begin with.

The third video is a demonstration of a lesson taught by myself showing you how each sound is taught in school.

Other activities to support your child:

• Fred talk' simple words to help with their understanding of phonics e.g. "Go and get your c-oa-t." Perhaps put a variety of objects on the table and see if your child can identify which one you are 'Fred talking' e.g. "Find me the c-u-p."
• Play ‘I spy’ with sounds rather than letter names.
• Practise the sounds sent home regularly so your child can recognise them independently (see the video above if you are unsure of how to pronounce them).
