1. Model the process and record the calculation, verbalising what you are doing.
2. Ask them which amount to get out first, then what to do next etc. With their help record the calculation.
Repeat 1 - encourage your child to help and use correct terminology. Repeat 2 - get your child to work out the calculation and record independently.
