When teaching RE, we follow the borough's agreed syllabus (based on Newham's syllabus that has been agreed by SACRE - the Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education).
Each year group's units are linked to a 'big' question. Within that year group, a range of religious beliefs are discussed and shared with lots of opportunity for children to share their own beliefs and ideas and discuss and compare those of others.
The BIG questions are as follows:
Year 1 - What does it mean to belong?
Year 2 - Can stories change people?
Year 3 - How are symbols and sayings important in religion?
Year 4 - What is important to the people in my community?
Year 5 - What impact do beliefs have on actions?
Year 6 - How important are the similarities and differences between religions?
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
