Welcome to Year 1!
Here you will find key information for Year 1.
Phonics folders
Children are required to bring their red phonics folder into school everyday. Books are changed on different days according to their group.
Reading Records
Please read with your child at least 5 times a week and sign this in their reading record. This can be any book and doesn't have to be the whole book each day. Reading records will be checked each Friday to see if they have earned a sticker on the reading rocket.
Library books
Library books will be changed on every Wednesday in 1C and every Thursday in 1G. Please spend time reading this book with your child. This can count towards the 5 signatures if signed in their reading record.
P.E.
PE times are below
1C indoor PE - Monday
1G indoor PE - Monday
1C outdoor PE - Wednesday
1G outdoor PE - Friday
Please make sure your child has the appropriate PE kit, long hair is tied up and earrings are removed on these days. PE kit will be sent home each half term for washing.
1 minute maths
To improve the children's fluency in maths, we have introduce White Rose 1 Minute Maths. These 1 minute tasks focus on adding, subtracting and subitising (the skill of instantly recognising the number of items in a group without counting).
Children can choose any topic they want to try. They then answer a unique series of questions (so it’s a different set of questions every time). If they’re struggling with a question, a ‘Hint’ button will give a helpful clue by showing the question in a different but familiar way.
When the one minute’s up, they’ll see a feedback screen telling them how they’ve done.
The app is free to download on the App Store, Google Play Store and Amazon Store.
