Linked with our seaside topic we have written some simple instructions about making a sandcastle for your child to read themselves. You will find the reading activity at the bottom of this page. They may need your support to read the instructions but encourage them to 'Fred Talk' any words that they are unsure of.  Encourage your child to read the information more than once, read it regularly over the course of the week. We have also included some pictures to support your child's understanding.

Ask your child these questions after they have read it to check they have really listened to and understood the instructions.

Questions for parents/carers to ask:
What do you need to make a sandcastle?
Why does the sand have to be wet?
Why do you need to fill the bucket up to the top?
Why should you tap your bucket with your spade before you take the bucket off?
Why do you have to be careful when you take the bucket off your castle?
How could you decorate your sandcastle?
What could you dig around your sandcastle?
Where could you make a sandcastle?
