Children in Year 1 will continue to follow the scheme of work; Read Write Inc.Phonics
Read Write Inc. Phonics teaches children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. They learn to form each letter, spell correctly, and compose their ideas step-by-step. The books that the children bring home are linked to this scheme of work and will help your child to access the lessons with increasing confidence.
Below you will find a link to a video explaining how you can support your child at home using the scheme of work.
In Year 1, children will be required to take a national phonics screening test to help monitor progress in their phonics skills. This will involve the children reading real and alien words (made up words) that contain the sounds they have learnt in Reception and Year 1. If your child talks to you about 'alien words', this is what they mean!!
