We will be looking at writing direct speech, which is built into a story to show what characters are saying. Have a look in a book you either have at home or on serial mash on Purple Mash for examples. What do you notice?
To write direct speech you have to use a range of punctuation, including inverted commas (" ") around what the character is saying. The powerpoint below explains how to write direct speech correctly with some examples for you to have a go at.
Can you write your own success criteria of what is needed when writing direct speech?
To show what you have learnt, we would like you to write some direct speech of your own, it could be for a story of your own that you have written. If you are not sure what to write, there is a worksheet to help you.
Check you answers and make sure you have included everything from you success criteria.
Handwriting
Continuing with practicing the 'b' and 'p' join, today we will be learning how to join using the diagonal join to an ascender. The joins that we will focus on are 'bl' and 'ph. Write out these joins at least 5 times, you may want to write on a separate piece of paper as the worksheet doesn't have space. Then think of some words that use the joins. It doesn't always have to be at the beginning of the word, it could be anywhere in the word. Then finally write these words in sentences.

When the weather is hot and sunny, many people like to cool off at the beach, in a pool or maybe by a river or lake. However, it is very important that we all know the dangers of being around water so we can enjoy it safely. What do you already know about being safe near water? Think of the different places where there may be different rules.
When we have our swimming lessons, it is not only a great way to exercise and have fun but it is also an important life skill to have!
Today we would like you to design a poster informing people how to stay safe around water. You might like to create to be displayed at the swimming pool, at the beach or for water safety in general. Make sure you include lots of clear information and that it is eye catching so that people will read it.
Read the information below and do some of your own research to learn more.
We would love to see your designs on the blog!
