Phonics, Reading and Spelling
Spelling - Last year the children were focusing on the Year 1 common exception words and should be confident with spelling most of these. This year we will be looking at the Year 2 common exception words. We encourage the children to be practising these as much as possible in school and at home. Children should then be trying to spell them correctly in their writing.
Reading - The children will be given two books each week, a copy of their phonics book and a reading book. When reading with your children, it is important to ask them questions about what they have read. Can they recall the characters? Can they retell the story in their own words? On Friday, we will check their reading records and if they have 5 signatures they will receive a sticker on our class reading rocket.
