Educational Psychologist (EP) who can carry out more specialist assessment than can be done by school staff and suggest some ideas of how to support children with more complex levels of SEN
Speech and language therapists who can carry out assessments to find out whether a child is having difficulties understanding what is said to them or problems making themselves understood. This may be because the child has problems pronouncing words, or because they have other difficulties e.g. with forming a sentence or knowing appropriate vocabulary
Specialist nurses who will support school in dealing with medical needs such as diabetes and epilepsy
School nursing team (or the health visitor team for children under 5) who can provide advice and support on problems around concerns such as nutrition, sleep difficulties and exercise
Visual impairment team who visit and advise school on strategies to support children with visual difficulties which cannot be corrected through the use of glasses
Advisory teachers for deaf children who will visit school and support staff in offering the correct provision to children with hearing loss. This includes maintenance of hearing aids, using amplifiers and supporting the child in strategies such as learning to lip read
Occupational therapists who can assess children with physical needs and suggest adaptations or strategies which can be used in school to help overcome these
CAMHS counsellor who visits school once a week and will meet with certain children from years 3-6 who have been identified by school staff and parents as needing some emotional support. The counsellor works through a combination of playing and talking with the child. Sessions are usually offered for 12 weeks and then progress is reviewed after which time a further 12 weeks of sessions can be offered if parents, staff, the child and the counsellor feel it is necessary
