We used a variety of resources to make different Christmas tree decorations, we then attached ribbon to hang them on the Christmas tree. We had a lot of fun making them.
Over the last few weeks we have been focusing on the book ‘The Hungry Giant’. In this story the giant gets the villagers to gather the ingredients for him to make a honey sandwich. To bring the story to a close we decided to make our own sandwiches. The first thing we did was discuss what a recipe is and why it’s important to follow the method. Once we were in the technology room we looked at the different ingredients we would be using and cut our bread in half to make 2 slices. The children then had the option to spread butter across each slice of bread.
The children chose from two different fillings honey or cheese spread. They then used a butter knife to spread the filling across each slice of bread.
To finish the sandwich we placed one slice of bread on top of the other and then we were ready to eat them.
To celebrate Diwali we have learnt it's the festival of light, the different traditions that take place and the story of Rama and Sita. In the story diva lamps were lighted to guide Rama and Sita home. We also made our own diva lamps. First we moulded the clay into the desired shape ensuring there was enough space in the middle to fit a tea light. We then pushed gems or beads into the clay before it dried. We noticed when we first used the clay it was cold, soft and wet but after we left the clay to dry it turned light grey in colour and became firm.
Once the clay was dry we then painted the diva lamps.
Here are the ingredients that we used.
We sieved the flour and then added yeast and salt.
We added some warm water to the ingredients and mixed to combine the ingredients to make a dough.
Now it's time to knead the dough.
We left the dough in the Technology room to rise.
Now it's time to put them in the oven to bake.
Once the bread was cool we ate the bread. It was yummy! We choose from either butter or jam to spread on the bread.
We have been learning all about harvest and why it is important. We have spoken about why we gather food and how it helps people. We have watched videos of farmers growing their crops, the machines they use to cut them down and how they get ready for harvest.
Please enjoy watching our two harvest songs below.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
