Autumn term 1

We have three class books this half term.

They are:

Elmer by David Mackee 

We are reading this book and thinking about why Elmer is a special elephant.

Vocabulary we are learning: patchwork, patches, decorate, parade, celebrate, herd, jungle, joked, serious

Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman

We are reading all about Grace, who wants to be Peter Pan, and talking about the key message 'You can be anything you want to be if you put your mind to it.'

Vocabulary we are learning: amazing, act, part, cast, ballet, ballerina, tutu, audition, vote, success, if you put your mind to it

Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper 

Linking to our school Harvest celebration, we are reading about how the three best friends work together to make and share their soup, and what happens when somebody wants to do something different.

Vocabulary we will be learning: pumpkin, pumpkin patch, cabin, pipkin, quilt, tug, squabble, rumpus, bop, plod, waddle, slop

We will even be making some pumpkin soup for ourselves!

Spring term 

We are looking at the book 'The Journey' by Francesca Sanna.

From reading this book we will be thinking about how the people felt in the story having to leave their home and what their safe place would be. We have focused on the safe place being at the beach as this is where the family was altogether at the beginning of the story. We immersed the children using all their senses of what it would be like at the beach and why it is a happy place.
