This term, our mathematics units are:

• Multiplication and division (focussing on 2s, 5s and 10s)
• Fractions (halves and quarters)
• Position and direction
• Place value (within 100)
• Money
• Time

Multiplication and division

In this unit children will be learning to skip count in 2s, 5s and 10s. Children will learn to solve multiplication by adding equal groups, making arrays and finding and solving doubles. For division, children will learn to solve division by grouping and by sharing.

Fractions

As part of this unit children will learn to recognise and find half and quarter of an object, shape and quantity.

Position and direction

Children will learn about full turns, half turns and quarter turns. They will use language to describe position including left, right, above, below and ordinal numbers.

Place value

When learning about place value children will be working with numbers up to 100. Children will learn to partition numbers into tens and ones and they will explore adding and subtracting ten or one from a 2-digit number. When comparing numbers, children will be using the symbols <, > and =.

Money

The unit about money focussed on recognising coins and notes. Children will apply their learning about addition to find the total when adding coins.

Time

Children will consolidate their knowledge about the days of the week and months of the year as part of this unit. Children will learn about seconds, minutes and hours as units of measure for time. This unit about time also focuses on telling the time to the hour and half hour.
